Save your toilet rolls and go for a walk! Its that easy!! (Not quite, but it's fun)!
So this year we wanted to try some new ways of doing things. There is never a minute we do not realise how lucky we are to be enjoying a Christmas together and my increasing anxiety around plastic and materials that cannot be recycled or reused, is growing, so this year required a new approach.
We went for a walk and picked some pine, holly and pine cones, most from the floor, but some were cut from the bushes. We cut some hazelnut wood branches from our bush in the garden and bought some garden string.
We made our first homemade wreath! Not perfect, but the kids loved it and it cost us the price of some string.
Then we wanted to have a go at our own crackers.
We saved our toilet rolls, we bought some tissue paper, ribbon (that we can reuse), and made our own paper hats. We wrote our own jokes, which the kids loved and added jelly beans. The kids picked the shape of the hats they wanted, and we did buy the snappers to make the noise. They are being used to decorate the tree at the moment too!
£0.40p a cracker cant be bad!
We've wrapped all our presents in recyclable tissue paper and used ribbon that we will reuse. Our tags are string and card that can be reused, and minimal use of sellotape. We have a very colourful array of presents under the tree this year.
And then the reindeer. Long lasting and so cute! Sticks, logs, a drill and a friend who knits. The picture can explain what goes where, and they will keep year on year! Not quick and easy, but fun to do!
